I first worked as an in-house lexicographer for Longman (now Pearson) in 1991 on one of their bilingual dictionary projects. Since then, I have worked for Harper Collins and Oxford University Press on a freelance basis. Some of the resulting publications are the Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary, Oxford Spanish Concise and Collins Spanish Dictionary (6th Edition).
Work on these projects involved the use of English and Spanish corpora and different dictionary sources for the identification of appropriate examples and translation equivalents. This goes beyond the individual word. Bilingual dictionaries now offer more sophisticated tools for encoding into the target language, providing useful idioms and correct grammatical and syntactic constructions.
